Coit Tower mural restoration

A very interesting project to be associated with as SF WiFi is providing wireless design, equipment, installtion and support for wireless services at Coit tower

More info:

One of the most vexing problems was updating and rehabilitating the tower without making it look like a new building. It’s a 1933 space that needs to be restored, not redone, city officials said.

Besides the waterproofing and the roof repairs, work is also being done to upgrade the tower’s aging plumbing and electrical systems and make it more accessible to the disabled. Outside lighting is being improved, and the gift shop and commercial space inside is being completely redone for the new concession operator, who will take over when Coit Tower reopens to the public sometime after mid-April.

The improvements are startling. The murals, already cleaned and partially restored, pop with unexpected color that’s enhanced by the improvement work that’s been done around them.

App Data Usage

CTIA, the wireless association, has launched a new site that enables mobile device users to
estimate data requirements for popular apps. The Site, www.KnowMyApp.org lets you browse by category or search for apps to find out how many megabytes it’s likely to use up in a typical month

Recent Project – Coyote Valley RV Park

What are travelers looking for the minute they arrive at their destination?..the quality of the wireless network. Mobile devices are increasing the demand for ubiquitous coverage, stable connections, consistence performance and network bandwidth.

The Coyote Valley RV Resort in Morgan Hill understands the need for guest internet services and contacted SF WiFi for a wireless solution. This project entails saturating the site with signal from main building, pool, common areas and all the guest mobile homes. Design challenges included supporting a large capacity of users across a very large physical site. Our wireless solution provides superior coverage, capacity and ease of use management features to seamlessly support today’s mobile user. SF WiFi specializes in hospitality wireless solutions and has designed, installed and supports over 50 San Francisco Bay area hospitality wireless networks.

Not just limited to downtown San Francisco SF WiFi also has wireless clients in Santa Cruz, Oakland and most of the bay area tourist hot spots.

SF WiFi also supports enterprise business clients, apartment wireless, site surveys and continued support.

The Data Perfect Storm

The perfect storm of wireless data hit our San Francisco and Bay Area wireless networks last week.

  • Oracle Open World brought in the people and our networks observed almost triple the typical number of wireless connected devices at our hospitality and enterprise clients.
  • The iPhone iOS update then pushed bandwidth usage and data downloads to a new level. It seemed everywhere we looked iPhones were downloading the update.
  • We even had a IT manager asking where was all this traffic was coming from while he admitted he was currently updating his iPhone

Fortunately for our clients SF WiFi designs and installs high capacity and high speed wireless networks. We did not have one downed wireless network, one system reboot or a single screaming hotel general manager during this data perfect storm.

In fact this “data storm” was a great time for us to observe our network infrastructure under increased stress, look at config options and offer clients tweaks to optimize performance.

And congratulations to Oracle Team USA for winning the America’s Cup.

During the weeks of competition SF WiFi caught small views of the races as we commuted the city from project to project.

Wireless Bridge San Francisco

When the time came for our customer to expand and open a cross town office/warehouse they contracted SF WiFi to design and install a building to building wireless bridge to extend their existing network.
Project Description:
Design and install a stable and secure data link connecting the remote office to the home office local network

Solution:
SF WiFi designed and installed a stable and secure wireless bridge with high speed
access points utilizing the 5GHz channel. This solution offers enterprise spec features
such as channel interference avoidance, AES based security and higher data throughput
rates than T1/E1 or xDSL lines at only a fraction of the cost.

A foggy day in Daly City:
This wifi bridge from home office to remote office is a 4.2 mile link. The picture at the left is the South S.F. office access point and illustrates that the client is literally redeiving data from the cloud.
